As the old saying goes: prevention is better than cure. That’s why it’s recommended that you visit us for a routine check-up and clean every 6 months as a minimum. Build-up of tartar and plaque can cause more serious issues over time, so regular dental appointments allows us to monitor your oral health before minor issues have a chance to become major problems. At Greenland Dental, we don’t want your regular check-up and clean to feel like a chore. Our friendly team and relaxing environment makes each visit a pleasant experience, and our scheduled booking and reminder service takes the hassle out of your dental visits.
Generally, it’s recommended that children attend their first dental appointment when their first tooth arrives or they turn one – whichever comes first. Of course if you notice an issue or are concerned about their oral health before then, you should book an appointment earlier. Bringing children in for regular check-ups from an early age is crucial for developing healthy long-term habits throughout their life. Just like adults, making regular visits to a dentist every 6 months or so helps them learn good habits from the very beginning and allows us to track their oral health as they grow. Our team at Greenland Dental is proud of our friendly, welcoming environment and we ensure your children have a stress-free visit so they’ll be more relaxed and comfortable with visiting a dentist throughout their life
Sometimes, the scariest aspect of a visit to your dentist is receiving your bill! That’s why we keep our prices as affordable and competitive as possible so that everyone can access the highest quality dental care and attention. Our team of dentists are partnered with Australia’s leading private health insurance providers and we also offer on the spot HICAPS claims for all other Australian private health funds. Payment plan options are also available through Afterpay and ZipPay. Of course, we accept all traditional forms of payment and also bulk bill dental treatment for children eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Schedule. If you’re a veteran who holds a Department of Veteran’s Affairs Gold Card, you may be eligible for dental treatment at zero out of pocket expense. If in doubt, talk to our friendly team about our range of payment options.
Absolutely! We’re preferred providers (“member’s choice”) for BUPA, NIB, HCF and Westfund. If you’re a member of these funds you will receive the top rebate for dental care, meaning you will have less out of pocket expenses. If you are part of another health fund, we’ve also got you covered. Just bring your health fund card along with you and we can make the claim at the time of your appointment.
We use dental x-rays as a crucial part of your treatment as they allow our dentists to check for any disease or damage that isn’t visible to the naked eye. In other words, we’ll get the full picture of your oral health to help make the most appropriate assessment of your unique situation. Our team at Greenland Dental utilise two types of x-rays. The small x-rays check between your teeth and underneath old fillings and crowns for any potential issues. These are taken every two years to monitor and track any changes. The second type of x-ray is a full mouth x-ray (OPG for short) which we use to check bone levels, jaw joints and location of wisdom teeth. Your dentist may refer you to a nearby bulk-billing clinic to have an OPG taken so there will be no cost to you.
It’s important to call us as soon as you can to make an appointment. If you can, bring along the piece of tooth that has broken off. Importantly, let us know at the time of booking if you have any pain and we’ll do our best to see you as soon as possible. We will also help triage your situation over the phone.
Generally speaking, there are two types of teeth whitening kits – “take home” and “in-chair”. As the names suggest, it all depends where the whitening takes place.
Take-home whitening kits include upper and lower custom-made whitening trays and 4 tubes of whitening gel that lasts up 12-24 months in your fridge. This method allows you to top up the whiteness and brightness of your smile at your own pace. When you’re all out of whitening gel, you can buy more whitening gel from us at a reduced price as you’ll already have your custom whitening trays.
The other method is in-chair bleaching, and this is done in the dental chair at our clinic as a one-off appointment. In this method, a higher percentage of gel is utilised to achieve results in a shorter amount of time. Sometimes, this method can cause increased sensitivity. When your appointment is done, please note this is as light as your teeth will go. As such, your dentist may recommend the take-home whitening kit for you to achieve ongoing optimum results. Due to the extra time you spend with us in the clinic, the cost of in-chair whitening is more than a take-home kit.
The short answer is… it depends! Some people are fortunate enough not to have any wisdom teeth, while others who do have wisdom teeth won’t have any issues with them. But for others, a range of factors such as tooth and jaw size, angulation of the tooth, and nerve locations (among other factors) means issues and pain will happen. In this case, it’s important for you to get an assessment from our team.
Technically speaking, a root canal is the space within a tooth where the nerve and blood supply is housed. You’ve probably heard the term “getting a root canal” – this is a procedure to remove the nerve from a tooth so the space inside the tooth can be disinfected and permanent filled. Typically, our dentists perform this procedure to address an infection or trauma that has caused the nerve of the tooth to become infected and die off. Root canal therapy means the patient can keep the tooth, as opposed to the alternative option which is likely to be an extraction.
