Cosmetic dentistry and the result of veneers

A dental veneer is a thin porcelain or composite resin shell that is bonded to the front surface of an existing tooth. They are an excellent choice for treating teeth that are chipped, discoloured, slightly crooked, gapped or misaligned

  • Porcelain veneers require a couple of visits as minimal tooth preparation is required for the veneer to be made in a laboratory prior to attaching it to your tooth with cement. Porcelain veneers are very resistant to staining and chipping

  • Composite resin veneers involve the layering of tooth coloured resin directly onto the tooth surface. Composite veneers are non-invasive, reversible and can be removed or replaced as required. This option is usually much more affordable; however, they are not as durable or aesthetic as porcelain.

Below are some obvious precautions to protect your veneers and prolong their life:

  • Never use your teeth as a tool for opening packets, cutting fishing line or trimming finger nails.

  • Avoid chewing on your front teeth, eat harder foods with your molar teeth

  • If you clench or grind your teeth while you sleep you will need to wear a splint

  • Wear a mouthguard while playing contact sport

  • Good oral hygiene is required to maintain veneers which includes brushing twice a day and flossing daily.

Veneers may offer the perfect solution to boost your appearance and improve your smile.
