Professional teeth whitening is designed to improve the colour of your natural teeth. Your dentist will discuss with you our whitening options during your examination appointment. If you have an oral health condition such as tooth decay or gum disease, this should be treated as a priority.

It’s not unusual to experience mild sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures while you are whitening your teeth, and for a day or two after treatment. Sensitivity is more common with higher concentrations of whitening gel and longer contact time. With both our procedures extreme care is taken to prevent the whitening gel contacting the gums and causing irritation. While most patients achieve a significant colour change there is no guarantee how well your teeth will respond to the process. Teeth that are yellow in shade respond better than teeth that have grey or brown shade. Unfortunately, existing fillings, crowns or veneers will not whiten and may need to be replaced to match your lighter coloured natural teeth.

Teeth whitening isn’t permanent, but how long the effects last will depend on how well you look after your teeth afterwards. In most cases, teeth whitening can last from six months and up to two year. Your age, eating, drinking, oral hygiene habits and smoking will influence how long tooth whitening results last. The good news is that when the inevitable happens, you simply need to see your dentist for a touch-up treatment.
